You are a Canadian or a Permeant Resident and you want your parents and/or grandparents to live with you in Canada.
If you are a Canadian Citizen or a Permanent resident and wish for your parents and/or grandparents to live with you in Canada, for an extended period and you do not qualify or are not invited to sponsor them, you can apply for a Super Visa.
A Super Visa allows you to come to Canada and stay for a period of up to 2 years, visiting your children and/or grandchildren. Super visa also allows you to enter Canada multiple times, for the maximum period of 10 years.
Unlike the parents and/or grandparents’ sponsorship application, no dependents can be included in the Super Visa Application.
Who can invite their parents and/or grandparents to Canada?
You must meet all the following basic requirements in order to invite your parents and/or grandparents to Canada:
- You must a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.
- You must provide a signed invitation letter, inviting your parents and/or grandparents to Canada and including in the letter:
- a promise that you will provide financial support to them for the length of their stay;
- the list and number of people in your household and;
- a copy of your Canadian passport or permanent resident card.
- You must obtain medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company for your parents and/or grandparents, that meets the following requirements:
- It is valid for a period of at least 1 year from the date of their entry into Canada;
- Gives them at least $100,000 coverage and;
- medical insurance has been paid for.
- You must meet the minimum necessary income or low-income cut-off.
Minimum necessary income/ Low Income Cut-Off
IRCC has set-up a minimum income cut-off that all applicants of Super Visa applications must meet in order to be eligible to invite their parents and/or grandparents. This number is dependent on the number of people in your household. The following income table is the most recent cut-off published by the IRCC.

In order to show you meet the minimum income cut-off, you must include one of the following documents with your application:
- Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the most recent tax year
- Employment Insurance stubs
- Employment letter including salary and date of hire
- Pay Stubs and/or
- Bank Statements
What requirements must your parents/grandparents meet?
Medical Exam: Your parents and/or grandparents must see an IRCC panel physician and obtain an upfront medical examination before you submit your super visa application.
Ties to Home Country: You must provide documentation to prove to the immigration officer that you will return to your home country at the end of your valid stay in Canada.
How do I apply for a Super Visa?
You must apply for a super visa from outside of Canada, which means your parents and/or grandparents must be outside Canada when you submit this application. You can apply for a super visa online or via a paper application.
